Recommendations
Visit Plas Newydd, the striking 14th-century country house that was remodelled in the 1930s to a Gothic style, with stained-glass windows and elaborately carved oak.
Drift along Llangollen's tranquil tree-lined canal on a vintage horse-drawn boat.
Pick up a kayak or canoe and take to the River Dee to see the area around Llangollen from the water.

- Head out on foot or by bike to the Mawddach Estuary, a striking area including two RSPB reserves flanked by woodlands, wetlands and the mountains of southern Snowdonia.
Caernarfon
Where you could stay3 nights
Ty Dre Town House
Recommendations
- Visit mighty Caernarfon Castle, possibly the most striking medieval monument in Wales.
- Take the bus across the Llŷn Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and visit the remote beach at Aberdaron.
- Step back in time on a historic steam engine journey as you take in glorious coastlines, ancient oak woodlands, mountains, rivers, and castles.
Betws-y-Coed
This bustling Snowdonia village is at the heart of the Conwy Valley where four rivers converge. Surrounded by some of Wales’ most spectacular countryside, Betws-y-Coed’s beautiful setting at the foot of the mountains has been inspiring slow travel for centuries. It's a superb spot for stargazing, well away from the glare of city lights.
Where you could stay3 nights
Bryn Bella
Recommendations
Take a stroll to see the ancient Pont y Pair Bridge, originally built 500 years ago and still a main crossing point for traffic.
Discover this wildlife haven of lakes and mountains, on the old miners' paths and forest walkways and mountain bike trails that crisscross the forest.
Hike up Moel Siabod from Capel Curig (reached on the bus from Betws-y-Coed). You'll need a detailed map and compass – and be happy to do some scrambling along difficult terrain – to reach the summit of this rocky mountain, which has stunning views towards Snowdon.
Llandudno
Where you could stay1 night
St George's Hotel
Recommendations
- Take lessons, whatever your ability, in rock climbing, abseiling, and/or sea level traversing. We'll recommend the best companies.
- Walk the two mile promenade at Llandudno and visit Llandudno pier, built in 1884 and home to Llandudno’s famous Punch and Judy show.
- Visit MOSTYN for contemporary art and craft from artists and makers from across Wales and beyond.
