Recommendations
Take a tour of one of the local vineyards around Strasbourg and sample a range of delectable wines as you explore the area. The 170km-long Alsace Wine Route is France's oldest, and you can explore it easily on two wheels via the Vineyards Cycleway.
Take a walk through the Parc de l'Orangerie and relax by the lake, or wander through stunning, well-kept gardens. Keep an eye out for storks; they're the symbol of the Alsace region yet they were nearly extinct by the early 1970s. A succesful breeding programme that began here has seen nearly 800 stork births since 1971.
Explore the Grande Île, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the historic centre of Strasbourg, and marvel at the huge, asymmetrical Gothic cathedral. You'll also find the intricately carved Kammerzell House and the grand Palais Rohan nearby, as well as Place Kléber, Strasbourg’s largest square.

Recommendations
Visit Domaine Josmeyer in Wintzenheim, near Colmar, a pioneering biodynamic vineyard where you can learn more about sustainable wine production.
This 13th-century Dominican convent now displays the art and artefacts of Rhineland’s late Gothic and Renaissance eras, known as Upper Rhine's Golden Age. You'll find paintings like the magnificent Isenheim Altarpiece along with archaeological finds exemplifying quite how 'golden' the era was.
Take a wander around Colmar's 'Little Venice' – where the canals of the River Lauch cross – and admire the picture-perfect views of colourful, half-timbered buildings. From here, head through the Fishmonger's District (Quai de la Poissonnerie) before crossing into the Tanner's Quarter and Place de l’Ancienne Douane.
