Penzance
Few images encapsulate Penzance better than the tiny island of St Michael's Mount which sits just within reach when the tide is low. On the shores of the mainland, Penzance boasts beaches backed by subtropical gardens, and one of Europe's few remaining saltwater lidos. A wander further inland will have arty types swooning over the vintage trinket shops of bohemian Chapel Street and plentiful galleries, including the prestigious Newlyn School of Art on the edge of town.

Recommendations
Enjoy a ramble along the coast to the tiny fishing village of Mousehole for lunch by the sea. Walk back again if you're feeling energetic, or hop onto the local bus.
- Don your walking boots and head off along the coast path to Porthcurno from Penzance. You'll pass spectacular rock formations, fishing hamlets and a nature reserve with a dramatic clifftop backdrop.
Watch a show in the famous open-air Minack Theatre, carved into the granite cliffs of Porthcurno bay and set in colourful subtropical gardens. You can also visit outside of performance times to simply admire the dramatic setting.
St Ives
St Ives is said to have a unique quality of light that has long drawn artists looking to capture its glowy, romantic haze. Today, this seaside town's artistic legacy lives on through galleries including the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, The Tate, and the New Craftsman showcasing the works of the late John Miller. The five beaches that have inspired artists throughout history now also draw surfers and sunbathers, while foodies, too, are spoiled for choice with ice cream parlours and artisan coffee shacks, vegan hangouts and Michelin star seafood.
