St Ives

St Ives is said to have a unique quality of light that has long drawn artists looking to capture its glowy, romantic haze. Today, this seaside town's artistic legacy lives on through galleries including the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, The Tate, and the New Craftsman showcasing the works of the late John Miller. The five beaches that have inspired artists throughout history now also draw surfers and sunbathers, while foodies, too, are spoiled for choice with ice cream parlours and artisan coffee shacks, vegan hangouts and Michelin star seafood.

  • As well as its established museums, St Ives is full of independent galleries, and is home to many artists. Pop into the studios dotted throughout the town, where artists make and sell a variety of arts and crafts, including watercolours of local landscapes, sculptures and handmade pottery.
