Home of the influential 17th-century painter Johannes Vermeer, Delft is a historic city with a golden-age influence visible throughout its charming old town and handsome architecture. The leafy, canal-lined streets are home to independent cafes and bars, with excellent cycling routes that skirt along the waterside.

  • Visit Royal Delft, the last remaining factory that dates back to the 17th century and still produces the famous Delft Blue ceramics.
  • Canals are an integral part of Delft and the word “delft” itself is derived from "delven" or “to dig”. Take a tourist cruise to understand the history and see the city from the water, or flag down a water-taxi to travel like a local. North-South Old Delft is the oldest canal and you can stroll beside it in Oude Delft.
