Lacock
A quintessential English village often used for TV and film settings, including Downton Abbey, Harry Potter, and Pride and Prejudice. Most of Lacockโs buildings are owned by the National Trust, who work to preserve the town. Soak up the history of the half-timbered 18th-century houses and the 14th-century church and tithe barn.

Sign of the Angel
Featured hotel
Occupying centre-stage in one the prettiest of all Cotswold villages, the Sign of the Angel from Sawday's is a genuine period piece: all chalky whitewash and wonky beams, artful oak furniture and flagstoned passageways. The inn was taken over by energetic young brothers Tom and Jack in 2014, and has been impeccably renovated to trumpet its age.
The owners are from farming stock, and it shows in Head Chef Dan’s menu. Everything from the bread to the sorbets are locally sourced and homemade. Enjoy a cream tea by an open fire in winter, a glass of wine in the pretty garden in summer and two dining rooms for lunch and dinner. Bedrooms and a small sitting room for guests are nice and quiet upstairs. Wake to a smashing breakfast from granola and yogurt to pancakes or Full English with local green back bacon and field mushrooms, sausages made in-house and tasty vegan versions.
Wander the pretty village feeling like somebody in a film set – you are!

Recommendations
- Be sure to visit the chocolate shop and admire the artistry of their local, handmade chocolate treats. It's a challenge to leave empty-handed!
- Browse and purchase the best of local, handmade produce. Jams and chutneys, fresh eggs, fudge, plants and flowers are all usually on offer.
- Visit the medieval Lacock Abbey, a former Augustinian nunnery; you may recognise the cloisters which were part of the Hogwarts set in the Harry Potter films.
