Cassis
This colourful port town, just east of Marseille, has a laid-back seaside ambience and great beaches. It’s home to cobbled squares, pretty boats, lively cafes and, most importantly, it's the gateway to the rocky, coastal Calanques National Park.

Recommendations
- Visit a local vineyard for an insight into a production of Provence’s world famous rosé wine.
- Stroll through the pretty streets, popping into the chic independent boutiques and antiques shops.
Take a trip to Parc National des Calanques for amazing walks along limestone cliffs and down to coves with jewel-blue water. There are many coves tucked away along these rocky outcrops and they're ideal for impromptu dips. Don't forget your snorkel so you can spot fish and other underwater sealife. Roughly halfway between Marseilles and Cassis, visit Sormiou and Callelongue or, our personal favourite, the Calanque de Sugiton.

Alassio
Alassio is a charming yet understated resort town along the verdant Riviera delle Palme. The Ligurian heart of the town is the Budello area, where a mosey through the vibrant cobblestone passages will lead you to Alassio's sandy shore, one of the longest beaches in Liguria.

Spend some time exploring Laigueglia, with its pretty beach and colourful houses nestled among olive groves. It's a lovely 5km walk along the sea from Alassio or you can hop onto the train to get there in less than ten minutes.
