  • Avignon was home to seven successive popes in the 1300s and is still known as the City of Popes today. Their former residence is also the largest Gothic palace in the world.

  • Enjoy the peace and quiet of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame des Doms d'Avignon. Founded in 1150, the structure has been continually modified throughout the centuries, which has resulted in a unique mix of Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic architecture. Head to the Jardin des Doms park next door for views of the river.

  • Pick up local produce at the covered market Les Halles – there are over 40 stalls selling everything from fruit and veg and herbs to wine and freshly baked bread.
