Spend an evening at the Teatro alla Scala – better known as La Scala. One of the world's most iconic theatres, the Neoclassical building provides a suitably graceful setting for opera and ballet performances. 

One of the most iconic artworks of all time, Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper is one of Milan's must-see attractions. The painting is still in its original position, painted on the wall of the Santa Maria della Grazie convent building, which is now part of the Museo del Cenacolo Vinciano.

Visit the striking Castello Sforzesco (Sforza's Castle) and the surrounding Sempione Park for a peaceful afternoon wandering through vast castle rooms and relaxing by the lake.

Paris has no shortage of tempting shops, from independent clothing boutiques to sprawling department stores. Don't miss the opportunity to browse the bouquinistes, open-air booksellers on the banks of the Seine, or indulge at the Galeries Lafayette, the luxurious French department store.

Head to Paris' Marais quarter for indie boutiques and some of the city's coolest bars.

Spend an afternoon relaxing by a fountain on the public chairs in one of Paris' many parks – the Jardin du Luxembourg is particularly peaceful.
