Vienna
Once the imperial capital of the Habsburg dynasty, Vienna's Baroque majesty is sure to impress. You'll find art, music and wonderful food at the heart of life in this city. Stroll through parks, lose yourself in museums, or enjoy one of Vienna's renowned coffee houses.

A popular and historic café frequented by Freud and Trotsky, Café Central is the embodiment of Vienna's coffee house culture. Enjoy an Apfelstrudel while admiring the majestic interiors and listening to the strains of piano music.
Treat yourself to an unforgettable experience by watching the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera) perform at the Vienna Operahouse. The stunning building hosts 40-minute tours, and of course you can take a look at the schedule and book tickets to a show while you’re in the city.
Vienna's Jewish Museum honours the thousands of Austrian Jews killed in the Holocaust, and also celebrates the history and ongoing cultural contributions of the city's Jewish community. The museum also offers themed tours from time to time – book ahead if you'd like to join one.

Graz
Graz is Austria's second-largest city and culinary capital. As well as being home to Europe's largest Medieval old town, Graz boasts a mix of opulent Habsburgian residences, understated Franciscan chapels and a trailblazing array of contemporary architecture, most famously the city's not-to-be-missed Kunsthaus (affectionally known by locals as the 'friendly alien'). Despite its cultural and architectural prowess, the verdant Schlossberg provides a tranquil escape from the buzz of the city, and the surrounding Styrian countryside makes a great day's excursion.

- Admire the strikingly modern building of the Kunsthaus Graz gallery, affectionately known by locals as the 'friendly alien'. Designed by British architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, the gallery is as captivating outside as it is inside, with regularly rotating exhibitions exploring themes of politics and social culture.
Salzburg
The birthplace of Mozart, backdrop of the Sound of Music and home to a lesser-known jazz scene, Salzburg has long drawn in music lovers with its array of museums, venues and festivals. But this Austrian-German border city has far more to offer than its renowned musical heritage. Exploring at your own pace, you'll uncover UNESCO-listed Baroque Altstadt, the flowing Salzach River and splendid gardens, all against the silhouette of the Austrian Alps.

- Embrace your inner Julie Andrews and take a walk around the beautiful Mirabell Gardens, where they filmed scenes from The Sound of Music.
Take a twenty-minute stroll to the top of Mönchsberg for breathtaking views of the city.

Zürich
At the northern tip of the lake that shares its name, Zürich is Europe's leading economic hub. However, scratch beneath the surface of Zürich's financial reputation and you'll find an attractive Altstadt (old town) and, to the west, a post-industrial district filled with cool bars, art collectives and fashion upstarts.

For a wonderful way to see the city, take to the water. Head out on a boat trip on Zürichsee, the city's namesake lake, or a flat bottomed boat tour of Limmat river from Landesmuseum station.
Get lost in infinity or dance on the ceiling at the museum of immersive optical illusions. One of Zürich's zaniest attractions, the WOW Museum will appeal to kids of all ages (and adults young at heart).
Climb Zürich's mountain, Uetliberg, which towers an impressive 850m high and offers great views of the city and its lake. There are hiking and biking trails here, and you can also book tobogganing and paragliding.
