Poole

Poole, one of Dorset's largest towns, sits almost land-locked on the edge of the natural harbour, nearly 60 miles around. Many of the impressive stone buildings date back to the 18th century when the town prospered trading timber with Newfoundland, Canada. Stroll along the harbour walls to see the many yachts, boats and larger trade ships or wander the beautiful gardens of Compton Acres and admire Poole from above.

Saint Peter Port

Saint Peter Port is the capital of the second-largest Channel Island of Guernsey. In recent years especially, the island has established itself as a coveted spot for wild swimmers, hikers and twitchers, thanks to its diverse wildlife and easy access to the other tiny islands of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Beyond pristine natural landscapes, the island's remarkable food self-sufficiency, thanks to local farming, island diary and abundance of fresh seafood, has fuelled the rising gastronomy scene of Saint Peters Port and led to the launch of the 'Guernsey mark' that identifies island produce.

Recommendations

  • Island hop across the smaller islands of GuernseyHerm, Sark, Alderney, Jethou and Lihou—each with their own unique character. Many small boats depart from the main island each day; it's the perfect day trip for discovering the most remote corners and secluded beaches of Guernsey.
